Instead I have been enjoying the reading of others such as Erik Hennes, Illusions, and the busblog. I miss posting and thought, "its time," so Im back from my little excursion.

College has to be one of the most enjoyable and crazy time periods in life. Everything is always flying by left and right, changing to and fro, going this way and that with a whole bunch of people laughing and smiling in between.

Im in the graduate school now and am finding it incredibly difficult to come up with a thesis regarding a crisis in architecture. Think about that one for a moment and try to come up with an argument...not that easy. Its actually killing me and my grades right now. Every assignment bulids upon the last in most classes so if the thesis is never found in the first place, well then your shit of luck. I am a survivor though and will get through in the end.

Another thing...dont really want to do architecture anymore. This tilts day to day on how my mood is. Some days I love it then others I don't. I do know this though its not going to make me enough money to make ends meet even for a tiny apartment...so whats the plan? Who knows right now Im trying to figure that out myself. Maybe another degree, construction management maybe? Architecture and CM would make a hefty combo. Real Estate world watch out! Maybe do ski patrol and strive to live in the summer or in the future during global warming where the ski patrol guys will dissapear and will be lifeguards instead. This year had better be a good year in skiing or someones going to pay for it.

College life has been fun. Poker every Wednesday night now followed by some drinks. I cannot seem to win a game of poker anymore. I tend to find myself the first or second one out now. Discouraging. Its time to get my game face together and make me some money. Working at the dining center is sweet...Im up for a student manager position. Not that cool but it does involve a raise and people below me to point my finger at instead of getting pointed at. Football team is looking okay, good actually, but yet to prove themselves. Poor old boys back west though, huskies, come on you lost to air force and you will continue to be the worst in the pac-10 with Willingham at the helm. Don't worry though USC will destroy us both evenly and will soar to win another championship.

Some pics below of friends and good times in little ol'Pullman.

The sexiest man alive...

Let the good times roll...

Meals be eaten...

The masta Chiefs!

So sorry So long

Aiyee! Only two full days left down under then back to reality and life. I arrived in Sydney two days ago from Cairns where the was lots of eating and diving. You can see the picture below of what the reef looked like from the sky. Sydney is huge....4.1 million people to give a rough estimate. That is a lot. Anyways since being in architecture and being a tourist seeing the Opera House was the first thing to do. Sydney is awesome because its city on the water and it shows. There are so many boats all over the place, ferries, everything is built right on the waters edge...its beautiful. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the bridge of bridges. I have never seen the Brooklyn Bridge or many other great bridges, but for now this bridge is my favorite bridge I have ever seen.

Anyone ever been on a wine tour?

I can say I have now and have been to on of the top wine valleys in the world now. I spent the whole day today on a wine tour in the Hunter Valley. It was about two hours north of Sydney and has dozens of wine cellars. Our tour took us to about 5 wine cellars where we were able to sample, sample, and sample some more wine. Whatever we wanted and how ever much we wanted. It was a lot of fun. Our little van had two japanese, one irish, one brit, two germans, an australian, and then the two americans onboard for the tour. So lots of fun conversations were had and new friends made. I ended up buying my first real bottles of wine that I know I like and are now part of my collection. They will be drank though and wont sit on a shelf for years...Ill use them for certain occasions...but its a start to my wine conneisseuring days. I feel special :)

Only two days left here...make it count.

The Great Barrier Reef from above...

Me and some building...

The Sydney Harbour Bridge...

A wine cellar in the Hunter Valley...

Wine tasting with new friends...

America

Being from America and being in Australia gives you a good oppurtunity to look back at America in the world view and to just let yourself think of yourself as an American. I have been trying to follow whats going on in America the past two months but its kinda hard because I dont have my good ol'news to watch all day just this nice Australian crap tv, if you ever come here the television is very very bad, everything being knock offs of American shows and all done very badly. I have followed the tour de'france and the shuttle news this whole summer waiting to see what happens. What lance has done is damn amazing in any perspective you look at it. Winning the big one seven times in a row of any sporting event puts you in a class of legends and the best ever. Its like Jordan of basketball, Walter Payton of football, Hank Aaron of Baseball, and many more. What he has done is not likely to repeat for a while. There have been other 6 in a row winners in the tour but not seven. To do what he does and to retire on top is awesome. Then the shuttle. This is a program that is being constantly blamed for things not working, spending lots of money, going no where, not doing anything but has anyone thought that were the only ones who do this??? Were the only ones in the world that have a space shuttle...we have two left if Im right. We had three...but what they do is dangerous and life threatening. Out of all the people we know, I dont know anyone that can say that they know an astronaut. It sucks that the fleet has been grounded again...and likely for a while once again but hey thats the business. They should scrap these shuttles and move on with the building of the new one but Im sure they wont. I just get tired of hearing people talk badly about NASA...were the only ones doing it and what they aim to achieve is going to pay off greatly. So yeah...over the last few days me and Jen went to Magnetic Island to start our vacationing and also the end of our trip. On Magnetic Island we stayed in a bungalow that was like a hostel/campground so we had a little hut and you made your own food and it was all good relaxing. Lots of sitting on the beach, burning my neck, and a good hike and fun. There was this trek called the "Fort Walk" that had a fort on the island that was kinda like the last defense before mainland Australia during WWII. They had some old gun emplacements and some old buildings left from the time. It also gave a great view of all the bays on the island. The island was maybe like 9kms across at most so you could walk it in a few hours if need you wanted and it has about 8 bays on the edges that you can get to. It was all good fun...even forked over some money to go jet skiing because....well hell...Im on vacation and it felt right. Were in Cairns right now and off to go scuba diving tomorrow on the reef. Tomorrow I will post some pictures of the reef from above. We flew right over it coming into Cairns...it was great. Lots of pictures taken over the trip....next stop Sydney...

This is a good look...

Trekking the "Fort Walk"...

Look at me...Im a gun!

My artwork...

XXXX

All is done in the land of Brisbane. Today is the day we fly out of here and move on to the next destination of our trip for some well deserved relaxation in Townsville. Going to sit on the beach and read and do nothing...Aussies have no clue why were going there and I dont know either its just part of the plan. Work was good and enjoyable but its good to be done working for free and dong the whole 8 to 5 thing of the real world. Anyways I should have net so more post to come.

On Wednesday we went on a tour of the XXXX factory. Its kind of like Australians major beer...its equivalent to our bud light I think. Anyways we met up with a bunch of Americans from across the country and went on this tour and drank and chatted and even sang karoake. Some how we sang the Star Spangled Banner...not the brightest...some girl picked and before we knew it we were singing it. So we now understand a little more the views of the world towards Americans, but it was still all good fun and it was nice to talk to some Americans to talk about our funny quirks we have found about Oz.

XXXX Beer Factory....the whole thing is like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory...

Free drinks once again for guys!...four free with the tour and whatever everyone else cant drink...

Some Americans...

More Americans...

An end is near...

Yuck...so yeah yesterday morning I woke up with my head in the toilet because of some shitty chinese food I had eaten for lunch on Monday...damn chinese. Im such a sucker for it down here because all the Chinese food here is authentic and there is only like 2 American Chinese joints in town so anywhere I see some Chinese food that looks good I want to eat hoping that it is good. Most usually its not and yesterday I found out that my body had had enough of this crap. So yeah...warning dont ever try Chinese food at any joint called "444."

So today is Wednesday and that means only two more days of working at "Woodhead International," which is a good thing cause its time to move on and get going with life. Brisbane has been fun and work has been good but ten weeks is long enough I feel. Its time to start some blitz travelling of Australia and see some winerys, beaches, bars, history, its just time to vacation. Hopefully Saturday afternoon I shall be on a beach watching the sunset drinking a good beer. The end will come quick though I feel travelling, unlike working where time seems to creep by and sometimes even pause.

I read an article today on MSN, sorry didnt get the link, that was going on about the National Womens Lacrosse team travelling to the White House for their honorary trip to visit el'presidente. The article goes on to just talk about some of the girls wearing flip flops and that being rude and not proper to wear to the White House. They have qoutes of moms saying they were appauled and disgusted by the other girls on the team. WHO CARES! Why the hell is an article on MSN or in the news about girls wearing flip flops to the W.H. isnt here more important shit to worry about in this country...Im sorry if I won some championship and travelled to the W.H. I would wear something that represented me. These girls were wearing summer dresses and skirts...flip flops are fine. I felt like ranting about that. Also why the hell would they take womens fastpitch out of the Olympics? Stupid shit goes on in the world and a lot in America.

ATTENTION! I finally remembered to take the morning photo of my day, without it the post cant be made. So yeah this is my typical Friday evening in Brisbane. Today is not just a post of my day but yes...its my birthday today too....22....the big number. Dont feel any older just now I have the ability to go to a bar in the states and they can look at the year and not have to check the month there after because now they will be like...1983....*light bulb will come on*....your 22...."go on in." Yes, thats the good thing about 22. Today is going to be a good birthday. Going to go to the city and shop some then were going to take a boat taxi up the river to check out the view then go to the bars for a good ol bar run with Dan. Party hardy.

Oh yeah...so if there is going to be anyone in the SeaTac area on the 3rd of August there will be a guy by the name of Dave, blonde hair, kinda tall, couple giants bags waiting to be picked up. My two options for rides have fallen apart and now Im stranded and I refuse to take the kitsap airporter back home. So if anyone is around to pick me up....there is a free meal at the other end.

I hate mornings. I woke up today after doing lots of thinking in the mind and have come to the realization that my indepence is at stake and I must find it and think for myself. Ever think you rely on people too much or youve been told you do? I honestly like relying on people I think its what makes friendships strong, is relying on another. There comes a time though when someone must find themselves and decide what they want, how they want it, and what are they going to do about it. This is my independence day and from hear out is my time and time for myself to think and realize what I want, like how much do you compromise in life for what you want and dont want? Are compromises good when you dont get what you feel you should want or need? Where do you put your foot down and where do you lift it up? Todays the day. I think a lot of people could feel this way all the time...today I act on it. This is a hard one though because I like having friends and loved ones around and relying on each other so much, thats what makes me, Josh, Jeremy, Brent, and Phil such a strong bunch of people. Is that ability to rely on one another at any time. Well Im rambling and not making much sense to myself, well I am, but I know this may not be clear coming across. Im done.

Ponder

Everyone in their lives at many moments have no clue or idea as to what is going to happen at any second, any moment, or the future. Lets just say that any restaraunt that lays a napkin over your waist...and lets you sample the wine...is great. To bad they dont do that at Maccers....McDonalds that is. Anyways where the hell was I...oh yeah below is the tower we went up...so its more like 300 feet I think after looking at it again from the top you can see for kilometers in all directions and you can see the ocean. Then.....you scream and hold on for dear life hoping that this isnt that freak time the brakes let loose and you die on a theme park ride...tragedy. The other pic is me freaking out on this ride..."The Stingray"...it was so fast I could barely contain myself......lol. Tomorrow I will try and post a life of Dave in Australia...pics pics pics. Less than two weeks left in this sweet city. Its just like Seattle but Australian so its a lot of fun. This weekend will be good...drinking to be had...its my birthday! Yay 22...hmm that doesnt sound that cool but a time to celebrate with good friends. Oh yeah the Mariners some how always find a way to suck even more..just when I think there near the bottom or the top for that matter....blam they crumble.

This is the tower I was talking about...

See how fast I was going....wee look at me!

Me, Jen, and Dan...

To Pulp Fiction...

Ahh one weekend left in Brisbane...kinda sad but at the same time enough working for free and time to do some travelling. This weekend as was a blast...dont see Fantastic Four...Saturday we went to Dream World, a theme park, in the Gold Coast. They have a lot of cool rides..imagine six flags...little smaller..but all the same fun. There was this one ride that was a tower about 300 to 400 feet high I think and they crank you up the side of it in a 6 seat cart then just let you free fall down the side till about 50 feet above the ground...intense. Afterwards we went to this nice restaurant where they put the napkin on your lap, thats service if you ask me. I have never had anyone put a napkin on my lap and I would say that it was awesome...we even had a wine taste before we accepted the bottle of wine we ordered. The night followed by singing 80's songs the whole way back to brisbane then was followed by more drinking and watching Pulp Fiction. This has got to be one of my favorite movies now. This week will be an ode to Pulp Fiction I think.

Vincent: And you know what they call a... a... a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?
Jules: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese?
Vincent: No man, they got the metric system. What do they call a Big Mac?
Vincent: Well, a Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it le Big-Mac.
Jules: Le Big-Mac. I wish I was there yesterday for the fourth...no fourth celebrated here in Australia. Most don't even know why we celebrate it they just think we celebrate the day for the hell of it...oh well. No fireworks...no nothing...sad. So this weekend was laid back...hung out with Michael on Saturday for some Cyber Games at some cafe then followed by some clubbin. Then on Sunday came the number one sporting event of Australia...RUGBY!!!!....this was interesting and fun to watch. We understand the rules fully now because we have watched and talked to many people about how to play this sport then tried to explain American Football....hopeless. There is no real way to explain the NFL to anyone because it just doesnt make much sense if you think about it from a non-american point of view. What sport really does...Golf? This is a bazaar sport..fun...but just think about. Imagine a guy just hanging out thinking...wow I think I will hit this ball 300 yards into a hole the size of a cup. Random thought. The game was fun...beautiful stadium...fun crowd. Anyone who plays video games...buy Battlefield 2...one word...sweet. Stop reading now and look at my beautiful pictures.

Suncorp Stadium...

The Broncos vs. Sharks...not American Football by any means but still fun...

Shihad!

Ahh after vernturing up the coast last night to see Shihad..props to Dan. If you didnt read or hear the other night we attempted to go to the show in Brisbane but apparently I dont look older then 18..actually I didnt have a passport and the night was ended real quick for me. So Dan yesterday found that Shihad was playing up the coast and was determined to have me see a good Aussie show. He bought me a ticket and took us up there. The show was great. They remind me of Revis or Mad at Gravity back in the US. They have that good rock/meladromatic(sp?) feel, pumping you up giving you energy. Been a while since I was in a mash pit fending for my life, people crowd surfing, just all hot and sweaty. All a good time though. Actually it was beyond great...super.

Well week 7 down only 3 left of working then soon I will be back in the real world which I dont know how that will go but we will find out when I get back..*sigh* I recomend to everyone that if you are offered a job to work 40 hours a week and no pay...think twice. Actually my work is lots of fun, good crowd, and Im learning tons of stuff but working for free is the catch...dont do it. It would be nice if they would give me 50 bucks a week to just show appreciation or to keep up the effort. Ehh nothing I can do about it...oh well. The kid below is an evil person, actually lets not label him evil cause we dont know him. This kid is at our train stop a few times a week. Hes always running usually to get the train, but here is the thing this kid will slide, slither his way up through groups of people waiting at doors just so he can get a seat on the train. Most people will give seats to elderly people, women first, then followed by men. THIS kid though does not...he will do whatever it takes to get his seat. I have been trying to block him when he comes but he continually gets by me...Im going to have to do a football move on him and lay him out, be like "Excuse me, wait your $*(*$ turn." This kid drives me nuts so I thought I would post him...call him "A most unkindely person of the week."

If you see this kid running...get em!

Damn it all!!!

FCUK I was so pissed last night when I came home. So after a frustrating day with life and work, just nothing going well, I was excited to go to this concert with some friends from down here. IT was supposed to be a good night, some drinking, some singing, some rocking out, to a band named Shihad. Work got off and the night begun by walking to Dans to hang out and chill for some of his buddies to meet up. After some hanging we took off to catch a train where we walked a lot to find this place because of this great little map we had from the paper that had a few streets on it but had some how missed the other 20 streets in between the two they showed....arghh stupid paper. Anyways so we got to the show to find out that no matter how many peices of identification you have there was no way of getting into this show unless you had a passport or an australian id card. Which I did not have...who carries there passport when there going to a bar...WHO???????? Apparently I will be now from now on. In the end though Dan is trying to get us up the coast to see them at there next gig because of the crap we went through last night. It should be good...today will be a good day...I will make certain of that. Frustrations...arghhh.

Tired...

After working for weeks on end now I have decided that the life and sleeping patterns of a college student are much more entertaining then working 40 hours a week and travelling to and from work with not much time left for yourself. If I could major in about 30 things and have it all paid for...tell me where to sign up. Actually if I was being paid to work 40 hours a week and travel and sacrifice my life I would be much more content, but not being paid has its priveledges because no one can ask you to do to much or stay after work. You can tell them..."ummm NO Im not being paid and I have put in my eight hours, so yeah...LATER!" I have now only 3 weeks left of working and 5 till I venture home. I miss friends and my life a lot it will be good to get back into the normality of what I call my life. I enjoy friends way too much to be gone...their like family to me...I need em.

War of the Worlds is great...if you havent seen it, see it but if you can read the book first for good times sake and it will make the movie that much better. Tomorrow after working I will be seeing Shihad, some band that I found down here, another local show so it should be good. Will be travelling with Dan and his mates to the bar and then the show shortly after. Rant rant rant...yada yada yada. BUY SEINFEILD SEASON 4 if you can...its the best so far. Im done.

The Nancies...

Last night the newly acquired crew from Woodhead ventured out to the orient to see one of two bands of the nights. This first band consisted of a montage of hippies who seemed to be just learning their instruments. There was a guy who looked like Disco Stew from The Simpsons...he was the most entertainment of the band. Like you would be listening to this keyboard player just playing some nice background music then one of the brass players would start....squeling is the word Im looking for...not playing. I felt bad but they need some practice, people in the crowd were leaving and looking as if it hurt there ears to listen.

This post though should be devoted to saying how awesome "The Nancies" are...if you were fortunate enough to listen to Nirvana or Silverchair when they were either a) alive or b)awesome and you enjoyed them then this is a band that will make you happy in many ways. They were made up of three players who looked like band members of Nirvana or Silverchair in their younger days. They had the sound of both and just played awesome. I usually enjoy local bands but you never really get your hopes up before seeing a new one cause you usually expect them to only be ok, when we heard this band we didnt want them to stop. It brought me back to my junior high days of just letting go and enjoying shit, the grunge era, anyone whos been there knows what Im talking about. I would say its been years since I have seen myself jumping around and screaming for a band, but this night was a different night. This post isnt making any sense I dont think...oh well...just bare with it and try to think of the times of Nirvana and grunge and what that era meant. Oh they were awesome...bought there demo cd and have been listening to it all morning. Im going to follow this band as much as possible, I wish they had a website to show but they dont. When I get back though for sure you will be listening to this band when you see me.
The venue was awesome too, "The Indie Temple," http://www.indietemple.com/ , its this basement venue covered with red lights and just a giant open seating area with two stages. They promote local music and have had some huge bands in the past such as Machine Head and some others. It is now a favorite place of Australia. Some pics below, check out the cool effect of the last one...

The Venue...

The Red Baron...David Frhr von Johnsthofen..

The Red Baron with Dan and some random Aussie..

The R...yada yada...and Melissa and Jen...

This band was this good...The Nancies...I never have seen a band playing while on fire...

Bloody COLD...thats right!

Going from one winter to another is not good for the body. It is damn cold down here, not snow cold but around 40 every morning. I dont think the human body is made to do this. It is meant to go from season to season and my body is like, "what the hell? what are you doing? wheres my summer?" SHUTUP BODY AND DEAL WITH IT!
Random thought.
For anyone who likes movies this summer has had a good round of movies so far if you want to know what I think. First there was "Star Wars: Revenge of the SIth" then came "Batman." Anyone who saw the final saga of Star Wars would be agreed that its bad ass and for anyone who saw Batman your probably trying to figure out how to forget about the old ones and are burning the old tapes or dvds of it because the new one is amazing. This is just the start of the summer/winter where you may dwell. Because this coming week "War of the Worlds" comes out to be followed by "Fantastic Four." Oooo its going to be good.
More random thoughts.
Australia is turning out to me much better then it had before this is mainly due a newly aqcuired group of friends and a new job, where work is constant and the people are great. Plus I have finally found some people to go out with and visit the pubs which is much better then sitting at home every night.
Mind blank.

To work or to not work?

Have you ever really felt alone in the world at times? I have always been used to being around friends and never really leaving to go out on my own. Going out on your own though can be a good thing but a difficult thing. I have found being in Australia to be really cool and also really shitty at times. Not that I'm complaining about being in Australia but like any place it can suck. I currently work at a job for free, for 40 hours a week, and to do nothing. Doing nothing can sound like a cool thing but when your really doing NOTHING it is the worst thing. Sometimes when Im there I like to see how many seconds in a row I can count on the clock, so far I have got to like 230ish then got sidetracked. See at my work Im supposed to be learning about architecture and practicing as if I was a real employee. This firm though, "Deicke Ricards," was very little prepaired I have come to realize when I came down here. Since being down here five weeks ago I have done really only about a weeks worth of work while the rest of the time has been spent: Writing an email for a boss, filing, reading blogs, emailing, chatting on msn, and oh yes...cleaning as of the fifth week of work. Im going in tomorrow to hopefully find out from another firm that I can go work for them instead and I can leave my firm behind. I like the people at the firm a lot though, but shit, Im really bored there. I leave early and take long lunches and no one notices that I was gone, because they dont have anything. If I cannot find another job I have thought about just quitting and traveling Australia some by train and seeing the place and venturing on my own, a little alone time to think about things and search the depths of what I want in life. Anyone ever feel that there searching to find what they want or what there purpose in life is? Right now I think I would be happy being a ski patrol in Colorado, 150 days of skiing, playing with explosives, and more skiing on the side. That would be a life right there, little pay, but lots of skiing. Australia though is a cool place as long as your not working where I am...write that down.

An ode to Aussie's Brews...

I thought I would make a quick post about the brews of Australia if any one is interested in whats good and bad down here. Two weeks ago we managed to escape the city of Brisbane with our host Michael to the little city of Byron Bay. Byron Bay is located on the farthest East point of Australia. Its a small town where everyone I think surfs and if you don't your kinda like an outcast of somesort. I tried surfing thinking it was going to be like skiing but its nothing like it, I sucked at it but enjoyed floating on the board. We stayed in a Hostel while we were down here which was a lot of fun. The three of just just read, relaxed on the beach, and swam in the ocean the whole time, which is funny cause down here its winter right now so all the locals think the water is freezing but really its like a luke warm bath. I went swimming one morning around 6:30 because I could. Oh yeah...how could I forget...me and Jen also went scuba diving twice while were down here. This being our first dives without the presence of an instructor made us a little nervous at first but after being in the water where its freaking freezing and you can see more then 2 feet we had tons of fun. On one dive we were able to lay on the ocean floor within 2 meters of a shark just hovering on the bottom. Some of the sharks we saw were up to 6-7 feet in length! It was a good trip, and they had this sweet bakery called "Brumby's" which makes an amazing blue berry muffin. Lots of rambling...enjoy!

A Byron Bay sunset...

My uni roomate Jen relaxin all cool outside of school...you know you want to sing it now...

This lighthouse is the most Easternly point in Australia...

A primitive form of email and prior to a message in a bottle...

The profile...

Sleeping Koalas and Tanning Roos

G'day! A weekend of bliss...with working 40 hours a week and with an hour and a half of commuting to and fro there really is no time during the week to do anything. So this weekend is apparently the queen's birthday which means no work on Monday (thank goodness). Me and my roomate Jen try to take advantage of the weekends and see the area, but we are limited by having no car nor much time to really travel out of the city so this weekend we went to the Koala Shrine where you get to see dozens of koalas sleeping and sleeping a little more. There is also a bunch of kangaroos working on their tans in the grass. I never thought I would actually be able to sit with some roos in the grass but there kinda like dogs and cats, they like to be pet and fed and they dont care about you very much. So yeah that was our event of the weekend. After a feeble attempt at blogging I'm back and I'm in Australia. I've been living here for about 5 weeks now working at an architectural firm by the name of Deicki Richards, they dont really have me doing much so the days are long and boring, but hey I'm in Australia so I can't complain. I can't actually say that I have been away from the states for this long nor from friends, its quite different not knowing anyone. The beer here is great too for you all you people interested...Fosters sucks and no one here even likes it...stupid american commercials. The real beer is Cooper's...its actually stored in its bottle to ferment (dont know if thats what its called) so when you buy this beer its customly supposed to be rolled on the bar to allow it to mix up a little, its damn good. I like to compare it Mack'n'Jacks, but even better. Theres a little something on Australia for ya...I just started this today so I got some pictures to post and such.
